Our 5 day Poon Hill Trek in Nepal!
Day 1 - after our hour cab ride from Pokhara we are ready to start hiking on the trail
Our first lunch spot stop
Climbing 3,025 stairs to Ulleri, the village we slept the first night (yes, Robbie counted each stair for us)
Waiting out the sudden rain downpour before continuing to climb
Made it to the top!
Guest house #1
outdoor dining area with a view
Robbie pretending he is a donkey?
Day 2 - made it to the village closest to Poon Hill. We spent the night here before our
4am wake up to climb to the top for sunrise.
Poon Hill for sunrise! Unfortunately, it poured rain around 3am that morning and when we got to the top all we saw was one mountain peak and mostly clouds. We decided to change our itinerary around and do Poon Hill again the next morning for a chance to see the view! Who doesn't love waking up at 4am and hiking up stairs for 40 minutes two days in a row?

Enjoying a hot cup of milk tea (people selling it have a great business going)
Mo Mos! Tibetan dumplings filled with local veggies.
Donkeys carrying supplies to one of the villages (perhaps our dinner for that night?)
Rena and Biddur - our great porter who carried our bag and guided us on our trek. He is also somewhat of a hero. On the third day of our trek Rena went to use one of the outdoor facilities (picture an American outhouse but much worse). When she turned to close the door, her camera slipped out of her pocket, and fell directly into the toilet hole in the ground!! She opened the door and yelled out "I dropped the camera in the toilet"!! After a few moments of panic between Rena and Robbie, Biddur decided to put his hand in a plastic bag and reach into the toilet to retrieve the camera. He got it out, washed it off, and we saved the memory card with the photos!! A true Nepali miracle.
Hiking through the forest area
Fallen rhododendrons - national flower of Nepal
Colorful prayer flags (the local villages hang these up once a year )
More rain showers
This was our "private jeep" that we took back from the hike to Pokhara, to catch our flight back to Katmandu. The man on the right scored a ride with us the whole way down! At one point, a group of school children got excited about an opportunity for a free lift (and a car in general) to school and decided to pile into our backseat/trunk area !!
