We had a great 10 days in Malaysia! We began our journey in Kuching (Borneo), then flew to Penang, took a ferry to Langkowi, and ended in Kuala Lampur. It was interesting to see the different cultures and landscapes, and of course, taste the variety of Malaysian flavors in each location!
Kuching, Borneo
View from our hotel room
Famous cake shop we found in Lonely Planet book. A bit high on the butter content but good!
Watching the orangutans being fed at Semengoh Rehabilitation Center
Vegetarian Laksa soup! Cab driver took us to a spot he knew of on our way back from Orangutans.
Kuching is also referred to as "cat city"
The ride on the little boat to Bako National Park, Rena is clearly the weaker swimmer here.
Crazy little monkeys we had to pass to continue on our hike. Luckily a large russian man grabbed a stick of wood and helped chase them out of the way. Robbie then carried a large piece of wood in case they came back for us for about half of our hike.
Water boat taxi we took back from our hike!
A rock that looks like a cobra snake.
Probascis monkey! They have long noses and big bellies and sit all day in the trees eating leaves.
Penang!
We hired a rickshaw to drive us around the city! This is Rena pretending to drive Robbie.
The Malaysian election occurred while we were there. There was a massive political rally for the opposition party that took place! They didn't win in the end :(
Loved this place!
Langkowi! The back of our hotel.
Beach at our hotel
We did an island hopping tour on this little boat
The sky looked pretty cloudy when we left
and it rained for most of the tour!!
Flying lemur hanging out near the hotel pool
We decided to do a fruit farm tour
They gave us some pineapple and watermelon to try. Unfortunately, all the exotic fruit (aka more expensive) were not in season! Or so they said...
The rest of the tour focused on taking silly pictures with the fruit. HAHA
We think the tour guide was actually out sick and the driver was trying to fill in
Kuala Lampur!
Islamic Art Museum. We had a great time playing "guess which country this miniature mosque is from"
Food tour in Kuala Lampur! As you can tell now, food is very big in Malaysia
Tasting durian (fruit) at the night market
GROSS!
The Australian couple that were also on the food tour. Lots of fun!
